LIVERPOOL STREET

On 2nd May 2023, we (Zoe and Vicki) visited one of London’s biggest train stations: Liverpool Street.  We were invited to meet with representatives from Network Rail, MTR and Seller to discuss the upcoming 1.5-billion-pound refurbishment of Liverpool Street Station, and how to make travelling by train more accessible for deafblind people.

We were asked to provide feedback from our members at BRIGHT, and that’s exactly what we did!  Feedback included:

  • Better staff training
  • Physical improvements to the building and platforms
  • A Protected Space for disabled passengers
  • Technology that could help deafblind people communicate with staff
  • Signs to educate other rail users about how to support disabled rail users.

We are pleased to report that the meeting went really well!  The rail representatives were so interested in the feedback we provided.  They seemed to take endless notes and promised to pass on all whatever we had to say to others at Network Rail.

They will continue to keep us updated with their work and may again ask us for more feedback in the future.  So watch this space!
